A Luxury Spa Massage at the Viceroy Riviera Maya

At my recent massage at the Viceroy Hotel in the Rivieria Maya, all the stars were in alignment.  I had finally found the perfect massage– deep and effective, yet magically pain-free, in a luxurious, calming setting (I can still feel the cool breezes gently blowing over me.)

The setting:  The Viceroy massage was held outdoors in my own private palapa (I noted the extra massage bed in the room would be perfect for a couples massage). The palapa was dark, quiet and completely private. The padded massage table was so comfortable I could have fallen right asleep. Soft music played in the background. Heaven.

The massage:  The massage I chose was based on traditional Mayan elements– an egg, traditional Mayan herbs and a cupping technique all came into play. After a full eighty minutes of deep but gentle massage, my body felt like butter, all of the tension completely gone.

The Spa Facilities: You could spend all day just lounging around the Viceroy’s peaceful spa facilities– taking a whirlpool, sweating it out in a steam room or sauna or letting one of the multi-jet showers gently pelt you with soothing water.

The Verdict: Hands down, this was one of the best massages I’ve ever had (and I’ve had hundreds). For me it was the combination of utter effectiveness and the serene setting that tipped the scales.

Sadly, we didn’t stay at the gorgeous Viceroy Riviera Maya, but we did ask to see a room for future reference. I loved that the Viceroy’s rooms didn’t feel like a hotel at all– they were really bungalows, totally private and tucked right into the jungle setting– the perfect spot for a couple seeking complete privacy and some alone time.

We explored the Viceroy’s stunning beach on the way out– and all agreed a snapshot here would make the quintessential screen saver, perfect to stare at longingly in the cold winter months to come.

Thanks to the Viceroy Hotel for the spa experience!
